I. Hospitals that demonstrated the biggest improvement (+2 stars) in patient recommendation rating over one year as compared to data from January 2018. These eight high achievers advanced their ratings according to surveys of patient experiences through the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS):

  2. Higgins General Hospital, Bremen, GA;
  3. Hillcrest Hospital Pryor (OK);
  4. Mayo Regional Hospital, Dover-Foxcroft, ME;
  5. Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital, Lincoln City, OR;
  6. St. Vincent Dunn Hospital, Bedford, IN;
  7. Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock, PA; and
  8. University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Chestertown (MD).

II. Facilities that improved since January 2018 their overall hospital rating by three stars, the biggest jump seen during that period.

  1. Henry Ford Bloomfield Hospital, West Bloomfield, MI;
  2. Saint Clare’s Hospital/Denville (N.J.) Campus; and
  3. West Suburban Medical Center, Oak Park, IL.

III. Hospitals that improved or maxed out on all star ratings over two years as compared to data from April 28, 2017. There are 12 attributes of excellence for these ratings:

  1. Gifford Medical Center, Randolph, VT; 
  2. Memorial Hospital, Manchester, KY;
  3. North Caddo Medical Center, Vivian, LA; 
  4. Tennova Healthcare-Shelbyville (TN); and
  5. University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Chestertown (MD).
